Greece’s leading bank has taken a decisive step toward enterprise-wide artificial intelligence adoption, with Piraeus announcing the launch of a dedicated AI Hub in collaboration with global professional services firm Accenture and AI safety company Anthropic. The initiative marks a strategic shift from isolated AI deployments to a fully integrated, organisation-wide capability — one that executives say will redefine the future of banking in Greece.
A Strategic Inflection Point for Greek Banking
The newly established AI Hub is designed to serve as a central engine for designing, developing, and scaling advanced AI capabilities across Piraeus’ entire value chain. The collaboration draws on Accenture’s deep industry expertise and its Data & AI Centre of Excellence in Athens, alongside Piraeus’ strategic AI roadmap — together creating a platform that will drive the reinvention of banking processes spanning operations, customer experience, risk management, and regulatory compliance.
“The AI Hub represents a strategic inflection point for Piraeus,” said Harry Margaritis, Group Chief Operating Officer at Piraeus. “We are advancing from individual AI deployments to a unified, enterprise-level capability that is deeply embedded in how the Bank operates. Our collaboration with Accenture, together with the integration of Anthropic’s AI technology, enables us to scale advanced AI responsibly, anchored in strong governance, transparency and human control. This initiative empowers our people, reinforces trust with our customers and regulators, and builds a resilient, future-ready foundation for banking in Greece.”
Powered by Anthropic’s Claude: Safety and Responsibility at the Core
A defining feature of the Hub is its grounding in responsible AI principles. Piraeus and Accenture — through Accenture’s newly formed Anthropic Business Group — will leverage Anthropic’s Claude AI models and platforms, widely regarded for their emphasis on safety, reliability, and transparency. These attributes are especially critical in highly regulated industries such as banking, where accountability and explainability are non-negotiable.
Thomas Remy, Head of Southern Europe, Middle East & Africa at Anthropic, underscored the significance of the partnership: “AI is transforming how banks operate, and it’s vital that modern AI systems meet strong governance and regulatory requirements. Claude is built with the safety, reliability and transparency that highly regulated industries like banking demand. In partnering with Anthropic to power a new AI Hub for Greek banking, Piraeus and Accenture have underscored our shared commitment to safe, responsible AI deployment.”
The Hub’s AI solutions are engineered to autonomously support decision-making, streamline complex processes, and enhance both customer and employee experiences — without compromising on governance or regulatory alignment.

Building a Talent Engine for the AI Era
Beyond technology deployment, the initiative places significant emphasis on developing long-term AI capabilities within Piraeus. The partnership will invest in targeted recruitment and structured learning programmes, including access to Udacity, Accenture’s AI-native learning and training platform. The goal is to embed AI skills and modern ways of working across the entire organisation — ensuring that human expertise keeps pace with technological advancement.
George Pallioudis, Financial Services Lead at Accenture, highlighted the depth of the relationship: “This collaboration reflects the deep and longstanding relationship between Piraeus and Accenture, built on trust, value creation and shared ambition. It’s a testament to Piraeus’ leadership commitment to AI adoption and a recognition of Accenture’s leading role in AI-powered reinvention at scale.”
Building on a Proven Foundation
The AI Hub does not emerge in isolation. It builds on a proven track record of collaboration between Piraeus and Accenture, most notably their joint adoption of a cloud-first operating model — a transformation that has already delivered measurable results in accelerated digital service delivery, enhanced security and compliance, improved operational efficiency, and progress toward broader sustainability objectives.
With the AI Hub, the two organisations are now taking that foundation to its next logical stage: a unified intelligence layer that will modernise Piraeus’ core technology backbone and position Greece’s banking sector at the forefront of AI-driven financial services globally.
