DEWA, Kazakhstan Consulate discuss expanded collaboration in renewables, water sustainability and innovation

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has held talks with the Consulate General of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Dubai and the Northern Emirates to explore avenues for strengthening bilateral cooperation across renewable energy and water sustainability, alongside smart infrastructure and technological innovation.

According to DEWA, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, met HE Almaz Tasbolat, Consul General of Kazakhstan in Dubai and the Northern Emirates. The discussions focused on identifying potential investment opportunities and knowledge exchange aligned with the broader framework of Kazakh–UAE economic collaboration.

During the meeting, Al Tayer highlighted DEWA’s ongoing initiatives aimed at diversifying Dubai’s energy mix, with a strong emphasis on renewable and clean energy projects that support the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050. These strategies target 100% of Dubai’s energy production capacity from clean sources by 2050.

A central reference point in the discussion was the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which DEWA describes as poised to become the world’s largest single-site solar park. DEWA noted that the solar park’s production capacity has reached 3,860MW, with total capacity expected to exceed 8,000MW by 2030.

DEWA also stated that clean energy now accounts for more than 21.5% of its total capacity and is expected to reach 36% by 2030, contributing to emissions reductions of more than 8.5 million tonnes annually.

Al Tayer further emphasised DEWA’s focus on innovation in the energy and water sectors, and its interest in sharing expertise and exploring joint initiatives with Kazakhstan, citing the country’s potential in renewable energy. Tasbolat, in turn, expressed appreciation for the briefing and reiterated Kazakhstan’s commitment to deepening its partnership with DEWA.

The engagement reflects a wider regional push to accelerate practical, investment-ready collaboration in clean energy and water resilience—two sectors increasingly viewed as interconnected priorities for long-term economic competitiveness and climate adaptation.

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is the Emirate of Dubai’s primary provider of electricity and water services. DEWA leads and delivers major clean energy and sustainability initiatives that support Dubai’s long-term decarbonisation goals, including large-scale renewable energy projects, smart infrastructure development, and innovation programmes across the utility sector.

The Consulate General of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Dubai and the Northern Emirates represents Kazakhstan’s interests in the UAE, supporting diplomatic, economic, and cultural engagement. The Consulate facilitates bilateral cooperation by promoting dialogue, enabling partnerships, and advancing opportunities for trade and investment between Kazakhstan and the UAE.
