Scala Data Centres, a Brazil-based hyper-scalable data centre platform, has announced an agreement to acquire data centre and colocation operations in Campinas in the southeast of Brazil from Algar Tech, a company that offers business process solutions. Opened in 2009, this data centre is described as highly connected and is strategically located; Campinas is one of Brazil’s largest data centre regions. The Algar data centre facility utilizes photovoltaic energy. It was the first in Latin America to use this form of alternative energy.
The acquisition of Algar Tech’s facilities will anchor Scala’s new campus in Campinas, which will have an area of over 130,000 square metres and 100MW of total capacity distributed in three buildings. In the initial phase, the current building will be modernized and expanded to support near-term customer requirements. Scala will also begin development of a second data centre on the campus, with 45 MW of total capacity.
