Mexican Telecom Companies to Integrate Clean Energy Solutions

Mexican telecommunications companies have working to integrate clean energy solutions into their operations to meet their emission reduction goals.

In the country, hybrid solutions that include the combined use of state-of-the-art batteries and solar power plants “have become the new standard.

In a country like Mexico, where the coverage of the electrical network is very extensive, new lithium-ion storage technologies and rapid charging can be attractive for energy needs, so their adoption is advancing rapidly and has become very attractive for the industry.

AT&T is a pioneer in the industry about its low carbon emissions and has recognized for this by Latin American Energy Organization Olade.

The company began using lithium batteries in most power cabinets for its infrastructure, reducing energy consumption at sites and optimizing maintenance costs.

AT&T began research and experimentation with green energy, considering that a single site can reduce fuel consumption by more than 50%. And this year, the company started working on deploying green solutions in its plants to solve power supply problems for public services.

América Móvil has not yet given details of its plans for the transition to clean energy in Mexico, where the company consumes 2.3mn MWh a year. It is the group’s largest operation in terms of energy consumption, even ahead of Brazil.

Most of América Móvil’s clean energy transition initiatives are in Brazil and Austria, where the subsidiary already operates 100% with renewable energy.

It intends to use energy from renewable sources, mainly wind and solar, in all markets where possible.
