LINX to Form Strategic Relationship with IXAfrica

Established in 1994, LINX describes itself as is a recognized leader in the global interconnection market and says that its reputation as a technical leader in the industry, and proven success internationally, will further strengthen the already busy interconnection ecosystem in East Africa for the benefit of both local and international networks. The IXAfrica facility is the largest data hub in East Africa, making it, the partners say, the ideal location to serve the growth and demand predicted in the telecoms sector and opening incredible opportunities for Kenya, allowing it to serve millions of data users in the East Africa region.

London Internet Exchange (LINX), one of the world’s largest internet exchange points (IXPs), has announced that it is forming a strategic relationship with Nairobi-based hyperscale data center provider, IXAfrica. The arrangement will see LINX establish a new interconnection facility in Nairobi, its first physical footprint on the African continent. LINX and IXAfrica are continuing to work closely together to plan the next steps in the project. Further announcements will be made shortly. This news comes only a few months after another major deal for the IXP, this time in the Middle East, where LINX and Saudi Arabian operator STC announced the expansion of interconnection services to new internet exchange points in Riyadh and Dammam.
