Entel Peru has announced the launch of a 5G New Radio (NR) fixed-wireless broadband offering using 3.5GHz spectrum. Entel and Mexican-owned Claro permission to use their 3.5GHz holdings for 5G NR services in the face of skyrocketing demand for connectivity. Entel’s 5G network is listed as available only in the Surquillo district of Lima; however, the operator claims that this is due to the regulatory stipulation that operators must provide 60% coverage before they can claim to cover an area.
Entel stated that its 5G network can be accessed in many more districts, including Chiclayo, Jose Leonardo Ortiz, La Victoria and Pimentel in the Chiclayo province; Trujillo, Huanchaco, Buenos Aires, Huanchaquito Alto and La Esperanza in the Trujillo province; and Arequipa, Jose Luis Bustamante and Rivero, Yanahuara, Miraflores, Cayma, Mariano Melgar, Paucarpata and La Libertad in the Arequipa province. TeleGeography reports that like Claro Peru, Entel is currently offering a single 5G tariff of PEN150 (US$40.13) per month, which offers users downlink speeds of up to 50Mbps but also involves a further PEN1,499 cost for installing a modem.
