Berlin-based Kontist is designed for self-employed microbusiness owners and freelance workers and offers bank accounts, payment cards, accounting features and tax return calculation and filing services through its app. Ageras Group, which provides financial and accounting software for more than one million small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Europe and North America, has acquired German neobank Kontist for an undisclosed sum.
The acquisition is a “critical step” in the company’s growth, adding the firm will “leverage Kontist’s technology to help us accelerate services to self-employed and microbusiness owners across a dozen other markets in Europe and North America. Kontist is the latest in a string of acquisitions made by Ageras in recent years, with the company also picking up Zervant, Billy, Tellow and Danish payroll software provider Salary. The firm raised $34 million in funding earlier this year, taking its total funding to more than $100 million since 2021.
