Wind power plant will have a maximum capacity of 8.2 GW. This will equate to energy produced by six nuclear reactors or the effect of planting 71 million pine trees. South Korea has revealed a US$43.2b plan to establish the largest wind power plant worldwide in 2030. wind power plant will also create up to 5,600 jobs and increase the country’s wind power capacity to 16.5 GW by 2030. Currently, South Korea’s wind power capacity is at 1.67 GW.
Integral part of President Moon Jae-In’s Green New Deal, the project was commenced last year and would curb the country’s dependence on fossil fuels as well as make it carbon neutral by 2050. Moon attended a signing ceremony for the plant at Sinan. Utility and engineering firms such as Korea Electric Power Corp, SK E&S, Hanwha Engineering & Construction Corp, Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co., CS Wind Corp, and Samkang M&T Co were also present. The companies would provide US$43.1b of the funding necessary, whilst the government would cover the remaining US$0.1b.
