Saudi Arabia is now the world’s leader in renewable energy production growth indicators in 2 years according to the Saudi Green Initiative (SGI).
since SGI was launched, the ministry noted that Saudi Arabia had moved up 10 spots in the overall ranking for the Green Future Index. It has also been ranked first in the Arab World and 20th globally for the CO2 emission growth indicator.
The SGI also led to the creation of 17 renewable energy projects, with a total capacity of 13.76 gigawatts. This will help save approximately 23.1 million tons of CO2 equivalent each year.
Saudi Arabia has established the largest clean hydrogen production center in the world, with a capacity to produce 250,000 tons per year by 2060.
The SGI also led to the opening of the first phase in Jubail of the largest Carbon Capture, Usage, and Storage hub, with a capacity of around 9 million tons per year. It will eventually reach a maximum of 44 million tonnes annually by 2035.
