Enel Green Power to Operate in Colombia

Enel Green Power expects to start operation of its 205-MW Windpeshi wind farm in Colombia in mid-2022. Italian renewables company will be moving forward with the construction of two important projects in 2021, the first being Windpeshi. Construction of the 185-MW (direct current) La Loma solar project is due to commence in the department of Cesar. Windpeshi has a secure connection to an existing substation and an environmental permit in place. Enel Green Power secured firm energy obligations (OEFs) for five projects in Colombia’s 2019 reliability charge auction, a scheme that awards compensation to power producers for supplying a steady flow of electricity during predetermined periods.

Windpeshi and La Loma, among the five are Tumawind and Chemesky wind projects and the El Paso solar project. The El Paso solar farm has since been commissioned. Currently, it is Enel Green Power’s only non-hydro renewable energy plant in Colombia. The company has not yet commented on what is happening with Tumawind and Chemesky projects. Both of these projects are registered with Colombian mining and energy planning unit UMPE. According to UPME’s latest update, Tumawind should commence operation on December 1, 2022, while the Chemesky wind farm is scheduled for early January 2023.
