Algeria’s New Renewables Agenda

Algeria’s bold new agenda to reduce natural gas consumption and conserve oil and gas export revenues by turning to renewable energy fueled game-changing government-to-government and private sector collaborations across the MENA region. The beginning of Algeria’s great renewables shift came in three thrusts: with regulatory reform, creation of the new energy transition ministry METRE, and the new renewable energy company SHAEMS. These developments have laid the foundations for rich collaborations at both national and private sector levels for Algeria’s energy leaders and entrepreneurs in terms of sustainable policies and technologies to deploy across its abundant renewable energy resources.

With Algeria’s utility leader Sonelgaz attending the show as a VIP buyer, evidencing the country’s renewed commitment to building a renewable energy ecosystem, the comprehensive product portfolio and knowledge-sharing platforms at Middle East Energy Dubai opened important perspectives on conservation strategies and the development of hydrogen sectors. And with the event also hosting industry-shaping technical sessions at the Global Energy and Utilities Forum and InterSolar Middle East Conference, the coming together of global expertise offered new insights for innovators in small and medium enterprises who are now finding opportunities in Algeria’s evolving energy sector.
