Google Cloud Opens a Direct Pathway for Southeast Asian AI Startups to Scale Globally

Google Cloud has unveiled a new cross-border accelerator programme designed to fast-track the most promising artificial intelligence startups in Southeast Asia toward global commercialisation — with direct access to Silicon Valley and up to USD $350,000 in cloud credits per company.

The initiative, formally titled Google for Startups Accelerator: Southeast Asia, was announced at Google’s Asia Pacific headquarters in Singapore during the company’s flagship “Google for Startups Sprint” event, a one-day gathering bringing together founders, government officials, and investors from across the region.

An Innovation Corridor Stretching from ASEAN to Silicon Valley

The three-month, equity-free accelerator targets early-to-growth-stage AI startups operating across Southeast Asia, with an inaugural cohort of 25 companies set to commence in August 2026. Applications are now open.

At its core, the programme positions itself as more than a standard accelerator. Google Cloud describes it as an AI startup innovation corridor — a structured pipeline that not only builds technical capabilities within the region but actively creates pathways for Southeast Asian founders to penetrate international markets, including the United States’ technology capital.

Selected startups will receive:

  • Up to USD $350,000 in Google Cloud credits
  • Early access to Google’s most advanced AI models, including Gemini 3.5
  • Intensive, hands-on technical training in agentic coding, AI context engineering, and multi-agent systems
  • Tailored engineering support from dedicated Google teams
  • Integrated go-to-market (GTM) partnerships with Google Cloud
  • Connections to Singapore-based investors and government leaders

The programme places particular emphasis on helping founders develop and commercialise proprietary agentic AI products — autonomous, task-executing systems widely regarded as the next frontier in enterprise AI deployment.

A Coalition of Regional Governments Backs the Push

What distinguishes this accelerator from Google’s previous regional initiatives is the breadth of government backing it has secured. The programme was established in collaboration with four prominent public-sector bodies across Southeast Asia:

  • Enterprise Singapore (EnterpriseSG) — Singapore’s national enterprise development agency
  • Komdigi — Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs
  • Vietnam National Innovation Center (NIC) — Vietnam’s flagship government innovation body
  • SIHUB — the Startup and Innovation Hub of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Each partner agency will provide tailored support for startups from their respective countries, creating an ecosystem where national innovation infrastructure and global technology platforms converge.

“This collaboration reflects Southeast Asia’s growing ambition to position its startups not just as regional players, but as global competitors,” said a Google Cloud spokesperson at the event.

A Track Record Worth Noting

Google’s commitment to Southeast Asian startups is not new. Since launching its accelerator programmes in the region in 2018, Google for Startups has supported more than 200 early-stage companies, collectively enabling them to raise USD $6.6 billion in funding and create 11,300 jobs across the region.

Alumni of these programmes span industries from healthcare and fintech to logistics and agriculture, including names such as Buymed, Good Doctor, Igloo, Kata.ai, Portcast, Transparently, Unravel Carbon, and dozens more operating across Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia.

The new accelerator builds directly on this foundation — but with a significantly sharper focus on generative and agentic AI, reflecting the technology’s emergence as the defining infrastructure challenge and opportunity for businesses worldwide.

Why Southeast Asia, Why Now

Southeast Asia’s AI startup ecosystem has matured considerably over the past three years. The region is home to a rapidly expanding base of AI-native founders, a young and digitally engaged population of over 680 million, and a set of structural challenges — in healthcare access, financial inclusion, supply chain resilience, and agricultural productivity — that are well-suited to AI-driven solutions.

At the same time, the region’s startups have historically faced headwinds when attempting to scale internationally: limited access to frontier model infrastructure, insufficient go-to-market networks outside ASEAN, and difficulty attracting institutional capital without a Silicon Valley footprint.

The Google for Startups Accelerator: Southeast Asia is designed specifically to address these gaps, offering not just funding and cloud resources but the kind of credentialled, institutionally-supported market entry that few independent founders could secure on their own.
